Day 3 - Colonic What?!

Because Tammy was scheduled for a colonic irrigation treatment today she didn't need to have an isotonic water flush.  Because she wasn't doing the isotonic flush, she could attend the morning stretch class down at the naturopath building, which I also attended.  Mark, the trainer here, took us through a gentle routine of stretching for the entire body.

After breakfast (eggs & veggies for me, 'delicious' protein & egg shake for Tammy) Tammy headed off to her individual counselling session with Joanne, who has herself overcome MS after having been unable to walk independently for 10 months!  She still has the occasional neurological episode when her life gets out of balance, but otherwise, you'd never know she'd had the disease!  She is helping the guests, including Tammy, to explore and consider the role that emotional imbalance can play in disease onset and ways to overcome this.  Tammy is enjoying these sessions so far and the message is of course all the more credible to us given Joanne's own experience with MS.

Tammy's colonic irrigation (referred to simply as a "colonic") was scheduled for high-noon.  We were particularly looking forward to this treatment because Tammy has had slow bowels for over a year now.  There's a lot being talked about and written about the importance of having a healthy bowel and the health issues that can arise as a result of an unhealthy digestive tract.  We were happy for the opportunity to do this 'spring cleaning' [hey, it's spring here!] and also to reset the gut flora and fauna, which they do in conjunction with these treatments.

Overall it seems this first colonic was successful.  Little or no discomfort, which is the way it's supposed to be, if done right, and lots of 'debris' evacuated, which doesn't always happen on the first treatment.  The faint of heart and stomach may wish to avoid the video below, but really, it wasn't all that bad!  [Please, no emails guessing what Tammy had for dinner...]  Ultimately, it's more than just a water rinse of your insides - they use an herb solution to help support he bowel in cleansing and they also introduce good bacteria at the end of the treatment to recolonize the evacuated areas, etc.

After lunch Tammy once again had a group counselling session and then rested from 4 until 6pm when we joined the group in the dining room for our supper broth.  We then had another super-interesting lecture from Gary Martin on meal planning where he began to explain the biochemical and experiential basis for the diet that Living Valley Springs now uses therapeutically and recommends permanently.  They've changed their approach over the years and it was interesting to hear why.  We're looking forward to hearing more and as we go along...
